Self-taught Zuni artist Brian Yatsattie started carving around age 17, the first to do animal carvings in a family of jewelers. He sources some of the best materials around. Sometimes he enjoys adding detail to his pieces but generally likes to keep them simple because he shared that too much detail takes away from the natural beauty of the stone. His latest offering is a gently shaped perched Eagle (or Hawk) made from a gorgeous turquoise to a dimension of approximately 2 5/8" long, 5/8" wide and 1 1/2" tall. An unblinking vigilance comes from jet inlays and an awesome hooked beak is at the ready.
