Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez is well-known for creating wonderful Corn-Maidens, Mothers and Grandmothers. Her aunt was the late great artist Faye Quandelacy. In the early 1980's, she was the first to carve Corn Maidens, spawning a family tradition. Kateri's latest offering is a vibrant Maiden Grandmother carved from a refreshing orange alabaster to a size of approximately 1 3/4" tall, 1 1/8" wide and 1" deep. The wearing of a shawl and whorled hair indicates she has not had children but has likely mothered many. Facial features are etched from gold lip shell, filled with jet paste, while lapis lazuli cabochons adorn.
