In Zuni tradition Turtles have a rain association and serve as links to the ancestors. In prehistoric times, turtle or Edo:wa in Zuni, appeared as jewelry. Andrew Quam's watery abalone turtle has a lovely incised carapace inlaid with turquoise pieces. Etched claws are darkened with jet paste. A turquoise-eyed reptile fetish measuring approximately 1 3/4" long, 1 3/8" wide and 1/2" tall.
