Zuni artist Alvin Calavaza has been bringing us wonderful animal carvings for decades. His latest offering is an upright Bear sculpted from a reddish-brown alabaster to a size of approximately 3 1/8" tall, 1 1/8" wide and 1" deep. The nice carving has soft etching and a gentle face from turquoise inlays. The gypsum has natural inclusions around the mouth area leading us to believe this friend has been munching on juicy berries.
