With a deep reverence for the spirits of the cold glaciers, powerful mountains, deep ocean and animal brothers of the subarctic world of southeast Alaska, Tlingit elders teach ancestral principles of responsible care and spiritual regard for seals or tsaa who have provided food and sustenance for thousands of years. Loren Tsalabutie's darling seal is smoothly sculpted from obsidian which is a variety of volcanic glass that formed when hot lava cooled and solidified so fast that crystals had no time to form in it. Eyes are from turquoise inlays. A tiny offering necklace is laced with fresh water pearl and colorful red coral beads. About 2 1/2" long, 1 5/8" wide and 1" tall.
