The late Vern Nieto's sons are carvers Travis Nieto and Frank Nieto, all descendants from the greater Natewa, Dallas Quam and Panteah families of noted Zuni artists. We're honored to share a wonderful standing Bear sculpted from fresh white calcite by Vern Nieto. Magnificent bears have powers that we do not and are revered by the A:Shiwi (Zuni). Because they can walk short distances on hind legs, an upright and white bear is regarded as healing. Endearing eyes and pawed claws are from lovely turquoise inlays. Adorable ears are nicely rounded, while nostrils and mouth are cleanly etched. A collectible friend measuring about 4 1/4" tall, 1 5/8" wide and 1 3/4" deep.
