Members of the weasel family, quiet skunks are part of Zuni mythology and other Indigenous cultures view them as representing family loyalty through loving defense. They are beneficial animals as they eat grubs and small rodents, a natural form of pest control for landowners. Skunks often have a negative connotation because of their strong spray however they are actually a peaceful animal that only uses its spray as self defense, not to harm others. Gilbert Bowannie's little stinker is carved from zebra stone marble to a dimension of about 1 3/4" long, 1 3/8" wide and 2 1/2" tall. Eyes are from turquoise inlays and an offering bundle of gratitude has colorful branch red coral, turquoise and heishe beads.
