Horned lizards have become increasingly scarce as their natural habitats are destroyed to make way for crop fields, non-native pastures and commercial development. Quality lizard habitat is a must if we're to help our reptilian friends survive. Harvester red ants are a favorite and necessary food source of horned lizards. So we can help out by maintaining native plants, grasses and forbs which Harvester ants feed on and by not damaging Harvester red ant mounds.
Nelson Yatsattie's wonderful turquoise-eyed horned Lizard is carved from spectacular Sonoran Sunrise cuprite which is an ore of copper. Mined commercially since 2006 at the Milpillas Copper Mine located near the town of Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico, its name is inspired from the colorful sunrises there. About 3" long, 2" wide and 3/4" tall.
