The captivating colors in labradorite are not actually present in the stone but are the result of light play within the stone. Labradorite is a feldspar with a crystalline structure that forms very thin compacted layers. When light hits the surface of the stone, it travels down through the layers which reflect, refract and diffuse the white light. Some colors are absorbed while the reflecting ones we see as magical flash on the stone's surface. Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's Corn-Maiden sisters have been sculpted from labradorite with enchanted blue, golden yellow and green hues. Overlaid faces are from gold lip shell, etched and filled with jet paste, while red coral and turquoise inlays adorn their shared shawl. Indigenous worldview teaches that sharing benefits individuals, families and communities connecting all to the universe. About 2 3/4" long, 1 5/8" wide and 2 1/2" tall.
