Interestingly, the word rhinoceros is a combination of two ancient Greek words rhino (nose) and keras (horn). They have one or two upright horns on the snout, hence their name. Today all rhinoceros are endangered. The Javan and Sumatran rhinoceros' are the most critically endangered large mammals in the world. Population decline is due to the illegal wildlife trade of their horns and habitat loss due to logging and other development. We can help save the rhinoceros' but not buying rhinoceros horn products. It is also said that purchasing certified sustainable palm oil and properly certified forest products helps curb demand for illegal logging and forest conversion. Bryston Bowannie's wonderful green marble rhinoceros has a sweet personality. Tiny eyes are from very pale turquoise inlays. Measurements are approximately 1 3/4" long, 3/4" wide and 1 1/4" tall.
