Gloriously lovely ruby in fuchsite is a form of mica sometimes called "chrome mica" that comes from South Africa. Daphne and Leland Boone carved a crested feathered friend, perhaps a jay bird, from this gorgeous material. Red coral eyes look pretty set into this approximate 2 3/4" long, 5/8" wide and 1 3/4" tall winged creature.
