In Indigenous Pueblo art, the visual representation of rainfall is often depicted with straight, parallel lines and stylized cloud shapes. Rainclouds are powerful symbols of life-giving water that bless Mother Earth with good crops in the arid desert.
Allison Melton is a wonderful mosaic artist whose creations are of exceptional quality. Traditional Kewa mosaic work is a two-dimensional art form that involves covering a surface with small pieces of materials, like stones and shell. The pattern in this colorful pendant forms a trio of stunning rainclouds from sterling silver, lapis lazuli, coral and mother-of-pearl. Surrounding pieces are from rich Sleeping Beauty turquoise. Everything is skillfully overlaid on a lovely bivalve shell. Including the silver bale, measurements of this pendant are approximately 2 1/4" long, roughly 1 3/4" wide and 1/2" deep. The complimenting and slightly convex dangle earrings are also from Sleeping Beauty turquoise pieces overlaid on a bed of shell. Including the hooks, they grace the face at a lightweight 1 5/8" long, 5/8" wide and 1/8" deep, dimensions are approximate. Don't miss this 3-piece set exquisitely hand-crafted.
