Pyrogravure is a fascinating art technique that involves burning a design on a surface, such as wood, with a heated object. The name pyrogravure comes from the Greek words pur and graphos meaning "writing with fire". Cameron Kalestewa's mastered this art form in his extraordinary Butterfly Maiden woodwork. This ethereally carved and acrylic painted traditional maiden is surrounded by other lovely butterflies, red roses, vibrant pink hearts and flowing pueblo motifs. The burnt out areas contrast gorgeously with the wood's natural surface. Signed by the artist. About 17" tall, 17" wide and 1" deep. Extra shipping charges may apply.
