There are five species of prairie dogs whose biological relatives include chipmunks, groundhogs, woodchucks and marmots. They are a keystone species and a main food source for wildlife such as Mountain plover birds, burrowing Owls, Ferruginous Hawks, Swift Foxes and endangered Black-footed ferrets. Fabian Tsethlikai's precious prairie dog community measures about 1 3/4" wide, 7/8" tall and 2" deep. The prairie dogs themselves are carved from pipestone and their cozy colony is from onyx. Eyes are from turquoise inlays.
