Monsoon's Blessings

By Camille Bernal, Taos

This offering is sold.

A stunning natural clay pot by Camille Bernal is almost as sweet at the artist herself. The graceful abstract flowers reach towards the sky, beckoning the monsoon clouds to bless them with rain drops. Both the design and the physical makeup of the piece are a beautiful homage to New Mexico nature and Pueblo culture. The natural components of the pot are collected from different areas in New Mexico, like Laguna, Kewa (Santo Domingo), Espanola and Taos. The red micaceous paint on the inside and on some flowers have a little sparkle thanks to the mica minerals. More than decorative, the mica presence is also remembrance from the artist to her Taos Pueblo home, known for their micaceous pottery. This piece was hand coiled, patiently painted with 24 layers of traditional white slip, cloth polished for a matte finish, and painted with mineral paints. The pot stands about 10 1/4" tall with a diameter of 10" at the widest and is signed by the artist.
