The overlay inlay jewelry technique requires great experience and patience in both lapidary and silversmithing skills. The top piece of sterling silver is laboriously sawed out to leave a negative space of design. Another piece of silver is annealed to it. Stones and shells are then meticulously inlaid bringing to life a unique composition. Zuni Pueblo jeweler Quintin Quam has mastered the overlay inlay technique in an outstanding sterling silver, red coral, turquoise, lapis lazuli, malachite, melon shell, pen shell and spiny oyster shell cardinal bird pendant. Measurements including the sterling silver bale are approximately 2 3/4" long and 1 1/4" wide. Signed by the artist.
