Orca Acoustics

By Calvert Bowannie

This offering is sold.
Wondrous orcas are said to make three primary types of vocalizations: clicks, whistles and discrete calls. Clicks or echolocation are sounds waves used by the whales to navigate, hunt and forage. Whistles are social vocalizations that are like a special language within their whale family. Discrete calls are short tonal vocalizations with unique harmonies. Calvert Bowannie's expressive killer whale has been carved from marble with mother-of-pearl inlays and turquoise eyes. A little blow hole is present. Measurements of this marvelous water creature are about 1 1/2" long, 1 1/4" wide and 1" tall.
