Lena Boone’s wonderful family and Keshi go way back! In fact, Rignie, Lena’s husband, often visited Robin's Zuni classroom after school because his daughter, Evalena, and his son, Leland, were in her class in consecutive years. (Early 80’s) He would show Robin his unique animals and she would buy many. This recognizable old-style bushytail (Coyote, Wolf or Fox) was a joint effort by Lena and Rignie. They are both related to mid-century master carvers: Lena, to Teddy Weahkee and Rignie to Leekya Deyuse. A classic collector piece, it is not overly detailed and traditional materials (orange spiny oyster shell plus beads of heishe, turquoise and coral) are present in the offering bundle. This is a piece for posterity. The carving measures about 3 5/8" long and 1 1/4" high, with the bundle.
