Turtle's close physical connection to Mother Earth reminds us to remain grounded in our life's journey. Zuni elder Andrew Quam has been carving since he was only 11 years old. We love his custom technique of layering stones and shells. He told us that he first laminates them into a block, then carves the animal from the block, polishes and finally adds the exquisite details. We see these special treatments in a wonderful reptile from bold jet, happy turquoise and shimmering gold lip shell. Focused eyes are from apple coral inlays. About 1 1/4" long, 1" wide and 3/8" tall.
