The Purisima Formation in California is a sandstone one that hosts well-preserved fossils of invertebrates such as mollusks, gastropods, crab fragments and barnacles that lived in a shallow marine sea during the Pliocene epoch. Daryl Shack, Sr.'s cultured-opal eyed sea Turtle has been molded from a fossil-rich Purisima stone to a size of approximately 3" long, 1 3/4" wide and 1" tall.
