Live & Let Live Coyote

By Lynn Quam

Animal: Coyote, Material: Surfite
This offering is sold.

Indigenous cultures believe beneficial coyotes and all animals have the same right to hunt and kill for food as humans, feeling no hatred towards them. The Kiowa held a public thanksgiving in 1839 for an actual coyote who stayed close to an injured warrior, lying down licking his wounds, standing guard and giving him the courage not to give up until help arrived. They have curative powers and have been observed in the old days, leading rescuers to an injured person or lost child. Lynn Quam's Coyote has been carved from surfite to a size of roughly 2 1/4" tall, 1/2" wide and 1 1/2" long. Heartfelt eyes are from turquoise inlays.
