Indigenous land management has always been about sustainable stewardship in balance with Mother Earth, instead of against her. Beavers are celebrated in creation stories and oral histories as an indispensable part of the landscape. They work in harmony by slowing the water, which is a living entity, through their dams thereby trapping sediment, filtering pollutants and creating natural fire breaks. Kenric Laiwakete's rich orthoceras beaver can be a lovely reminder that life is best lived by nurturing the environment as a sacred interconnected system, instead of exploiting it. Colorful eyes are from turquoise inlays, while a heartline or breath path is from alternating turquoise and coral inlays. A great tail is nicely sgraffito-etched. About 2 3/4" long, 1" wide and 3/4" tall.
