Hopi Mountain Lion Katsina Doll

The Hopi People believe Katsinas bring harmony to Mother Earth, beneficial rainfall, good crops, fertility and successful hunting. They are various masked ancestral spirits who come during their religious dances. Adrian Leon creates colorful small-scale katsina dolls like this miniature "Hopi Mountain Lion" who is detailed with feathers, embroidery thread, cloth and pipe cleaner on a carved cottonwood body painted with acrylic paints. The Mountain Lion protects the processions during specific traditional ceremonies. Signed by the artist, this collectible woodwork including base is approximately 2 1/8" tall, roughly 1 1/2" wide and 1" deep. Signed by the artist.
