The Hopi People believe Katsinas bring harmony in nature, beneficial rainfall, good crops, fertility and successful hunting. They are various masked ancestral spirits who come during Hopi religious dances. Adrian Leon's latest woodwork is a small Hopi Greasy Katsina doll carved from cottonwood and painted with colorful acrylics. If caught by Greasy Katsina during a foot race, grease will be smeared on the opponent. Other nice additions to this small carving include pipe cleaner, chicken feathers, cloth and embroidery thread. About 2 1/2" tall, 1 1/4" wide and 1 1/8" deep. Signed by the artist.
