Bears represent healing for the A:Shiwi (Zuni). Around the rainforest coast of British Colombia, a subspecies of black bears called Kermode bears produce rare white or creamy-furred bears sometimes referred to as Spirit Bears, sacred brothers to the Indigenous Peoples there. Burt Awelagte honors these magnificent creatures with a smoothly sculpted white marble or perhaps sugar stone marble bear (or even a polar bear). Endearing eyes are from turquoise inlays. An offering bundle is laced with turquoise beads plus an iridescent freshwater blister pearl one. About 4 1/4" long, 1 1/8" wide and 2 5/8" tall.
