All of the Paleozoic oceans teemed with orthoceras who belong to the class Cephalopoda. Other living members of this classification are octopus, squid and the chambered nautilus. The name cephalopoda interestingly means head foot referring to the fact that their tentacles or feet grew out of their heads. Kenric Laiwakete's peaceful Medicine-bear has been carved from a gorgeous orthoceras in a perhaps black marinace stone. Eyes and an alternating heartline or breath path are inlaid with turquoise. The orthoceras fossil's placement is suggestive of a natural heartline as well, lovely. About 2 1/2" long, 1/2" wide and 2" tall.
