Pink mussel shell is opalescent and shimmers like water, a perfect material for Andrew Quam's approximately 2 1/4" long, 2 1/2" wide and 1/2" tall curvy Frog. Attractively placed turquoise inlaid spots, eyes and webbed feet from inlaid jet accent this wide-smiling amphibian.
Andrew descends from the greater Johnny Quam (d), Andrew Emerson Quam (d) and Bossie Quam (d) family of notable Zuni Pueblo artists. Andrew's mother was Rosalia Quam (d) who learned the art from her step-father George Cheechee Haloo (d). She was well-known for stringing bird fetishes and also for her wonderful horse, frog and owl carvings. Rosalia and her husband Andrew Emerson Quam taught Andrew to carve.
