Classic Stone To Stone Inlaid Earrings

By Carol Niiha

This offering is sold.

The Zunis are well-known for a particular type of stonework called inlay. Stones and shell are worked and then fit together side by side, which is called stone-to-stone. The predominant colors and stones used in traditional Zuni inlay are turquoise, red coral, black jet and white mother of pearl. Symbolically, red represents Mother Earth and turquoise represents Father Sky. The black and white of the other stones or shell, is a further representation of dualities.

Carol Niiha's all handmade sterling silver, turquoise, red coral, jet, black lip shell and pen shell tear drop shaped earrings are set in the stone to stone method, which requires a lot of skill and patience. These post earrings are about 7/8" long and 3/4" wide. Easy to wear while being a striking addition to your wardrobe. Signed by the artist.
