Campitos Turquoise Reversible Corn Maiden Sisters

By Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez, Zuni-Acoma

Animal: Corn Maiden, Material: Campitos Turquoise
This offering is sold.
Campitos turquoise is gathered in the Sonoran mountains in Mexico. Indigenous groups have always collected this desirable variety of turquoise. Fascinatingly, the majority of Campitos turquoise forms in clay deposits, which makes it different from other turquoises that are usually mined from rock veins. Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's Corn-Maiden grouping is carved from a lovely portion of Campitos turquoise. A reversible fetish, each sister has facial features from overlaid gold lip shell that's been etched and filled with jet paste. About 2 3/4" tall, 2 1/2" wide and 1" deep.
