Across Mesoamerica and South America, Indigenous cultures have used copal, an aromatic tree resin, ceremonially and in traditional medicine since ancient times. The name copal is derived from the Nahuatl word copalli and is considered as the "blood of the tree". Larry Peina's small old-style Mountain-Lion (cougar, puma or panther) is sculpted from a golden copal specimen to a size of approximately 1 1/2" long, 5/8" wide and 5/8" tall. Eyes as blue as the Zuni sky are from turquoise inlays.
