Artist Benina Kallestewa began stone carving back in high school. She'd sit outside with carvers to learn and help. When she was out hauling wood, she'd observe the animals and "imagine how to make them." A Bear was her very first carving which she still has to this day. Her latest offering is a stretching bear or perhaps a polar bear sculpted from marble to a size of approximately 2 1/2" long, 1" wide and 1 5/8" tall. Bears need to stay limber for hunting and other activities. Eyes are from cultured opal inlays and an offering bundle has various beads such as melon shell, coral and mystic agate.
