Katsinas are various masked ancestral spirits who come during Hopi religious dances. Adrian Leon creates traditional katsina dolls like this miniature Hopi Black Ogre Katsina who acts as a disciplinarian to unruly children. Adrian decorated with feathers, pipe cleaner, embroidery thread, cloth and real cactus spines on a cottonwood body painted with colorful acrylic paints. Signed by the artist, this small woodwork including base is approximately 2 5/8" tall, 1 1/4" wide and 1" deep.
