In Zuni Pueblo tradition, Snakes have a lightning association. In First Nations culture, snakes are regarded as guides and heroes. They were one of the most common depictions on petroglyphs, petroforms or stone monuments and sacred birch bark scrolls. Andrew Quam's reptile has been carved from zebra marble to a size of approximately 3 1/4" long, 7/8" wide and 3/8" tall. Eyes are from turquoise and a rattler is nicely etched.
