The name cuprite is derived from the Latin word cuprum meaning copper because of a high copper content. It is found in and around copper deposits areas where turquoise is also found. Stewart Quandelacy and Priscilla Lasiloo Quandelacy's gentle Medicine-Bear is sculpted from a gorgeous cuprite specimen imbued with dark reddish and verdant hues to a size of approximately 2 3/8" long, 5/8" wide and 2" tall. An alternating heartline or breath path and eyes are from sky blue turquoise inlays.
