Among the cactus and shrubs of the desert Southwest, Salvador Romero's roadrunner swiftly hunts reptiles, small mammals and even birds. A focused hunter with its head up and a nice set of tail feathers that stream behind, this wonderful feathered friend from found stone measures approximately 6 3/4" long, 1 1/4" wide and 2 1/4" tall. A beak is gorgeously carved as well.

Joel Pajarito's stunning Rain and Corn Spirit pin/pendant was created in the tufa cast method. It involves slicing tufa into manageable portions and carving meaningful designs into the sandstone. Molten silver is poured into the block and cooled. Joel's father Anthony Lovato started creating signature Spirit pendants in 1990. Joel's magnificent Rain and Corn Maiden Spirit pin/pendant is made with Kingman turquoise and tufa cast sterling silver. The bale's design is shaped similar to the hook of a shepherd's staff. Nelson Yatsattie's enchanting Frog has hopped out of the water to say hello. A skillful polishing job shows off the natural beauty of the Queen's Creek marble specimen. Friendly eyes are from turquoise inlays as blue as a Pueblo sky. Dimensions of this gorgeous water creature are approximately 2 1/2" long, 2 1/2" wide and 1 1/2" tall.

After soaking in a Cochiti pond, Salvador Romero's Frog looks on as the sunsets. This found stone has natural colors that remind us of twighlight time, calming and serene. Minimally carved with a sweet smile and bulbous eyes, Salvador water creature friend is about 4 1/2" long, 2 1/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall.

Indigenous Nutria travertine is a found stone on the Nutria area of the Zuni Pueblo reservation. It can be either travertine, agate or jasper. The rich tertiary colors are like a warm cup of coffee. Melvin Eriacho is a master carver who recently brought by a beautifully polished Nutria travertine Frog. The attention to detail is extraordinary like the two raised skin ridges called dorsolateral folds that run from the eyes down the back or the wonderfully realistic webbed feet. Charming eyes are from turquoise inlays. About 4 1/2" long, 3 1/4" wide and 2 1/4" tall.

Freddie Leekya's grandfather was famous fetish carver Leekya Deyuse who produced some of the finest carvings in Zuni. Freddie's brothers are noted artists Delvin Leekya and Hayes Leekya. Freddie's wife is award-winning jeweler April Unkestine. Freddie's Frog friend is sculpted from Zuni travertine. Eyes are from pen shell in turquoise inlays. Zunis believe that frogs, who are water creatures, bring an animal medicine of cleansing and emotional healing. About 2 1/8" long, 1 1/4" wide and 1 5/8" tall.

A joyful Bear lets out a roar of pleasure for a successful fishing trip. Incomparably carved from burnished antler, Troy Sice's mighty bear has turquoise eyes and meticulously inlaid claws from jet. A charming fish is sculpted from iridescent abalone and has tiny eyes from turquoise. A vibrant orange spiny oyster shell point along with heishe, turquoise and branch red coral beads form the wonderful offering bundle. We love the exquisite scaling on the fish and Troy's masterful use of the antler's natural features for the back and face of this powerful hunting bear. A museum quality piece measuring approximately 3 1/2" long, 1 1/2" wide and 2 3/4" tall.

Tufa casting is a labor-intensive process including the tricky aspect of visualizing your final product in reverse, as it is carved into the stone. The tufa molds can only be used once, as they are destroyed in the removal of the cooled silver piece so you know that Noah Pajarito's sterling silver button earrings are one of a kind. Land, water and air are the three main environments on Earth and many living things need all three to survive. Perhaps they are represented in these approximately 1" long and 1" wide wonderful earrings for pierced ears. They are of medium-weight in wearability. Signed by the artist.

Corn is a gift that brings life. Corn Maiden brought this gift to the People. Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's collectible Corn-Maiden has an overlaid face from iridescent gold lip shell with incised features accented by jet paste. She also wears an inlaid coral cabochon complimenting the fluorite specimen that's hosting incredible subtle teal green and blue hues. About 2" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 3/4" deep.

Carved from burnished cottonwood root, Bart Gasper, Jr.'s "Bears In Paradise" sculpture demonstrates an attention to detail like no other. Utilizing the pyrography art form, which is creating designs on wood by applying heat and pressure, feast your eyes on two mighty bears who reel in fish with exquisite scaling. The oceanside bears wear offering necklaces and bracelets from branch red coral and crushed turquoise. They are adorned with traditional sashes as well. Other etched water creatures include a sea Turtle with an amazing carapace, enchanted seahorses, sea stars, jelly fish, water striders, Frogs and lovely aquatic plants. A few Dragonfly and rain clouds appear as well. We also love the base adorned with rolling waves whose patterns convey a beautiful sense of movement. In the wild Badgers are focused and steadfast in what they set out to do, never giving up. Their example or animal medicine teaches us to be determined, not quitting on our goals and vision when things gets hard or are not happening as quickly as we'd hoped. Melvin Sandoval's badger has been elegantly conveyed in dolomite, his favorite stone to carve. The sunset-hued layers within the dolomite are incredible. About 4" long, 1 1/4" wide and 1 3/8" tall.

Facial features are from jet and red coral. Hair is in traditional whorls, elegantly etched. About 2 3/4" tall, 1 3/8" wide and 1" deep.

Wild canines like important Foxes, Wolves and Coyotes have powerful abilities that we do not. Their six senses reveal the energies, thoughts and body language of any living thing. Eli Cheama's marvelous canine has turquoise inlaid eyes and is carved from Picasso marble. An adorable nose from jet and intricate etching give a furry coat. Ears are always listening. About 2 3/4" long, 3/4" wide and 1" tall.

Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's carved Elisa turquoise corn earrings tell a story about the Zunis and other Indigenous societies who were farmers growing corn as a sustenance crop. Planted and harvested today, corn is called "the mother" because it’s cultivated from “Mother Earth”. The traditional way corn is used acknowledges it as a gift and blessing from the Creator. Many Pueblo cultures give Corn Dances. It’s offered to metaphorically "feed" animal carvings in thankfulness for their traits in nature. Cornmeal or corn pollen is usually carried in a small leather pouch. When natural resources like game animals, irrigation water and clay are used, a prayer and a sprinkling of cornmeal are given in gratitude. About 2" long including hooks, 3/4" wide and 1/2" deep. They are of a heavyweight in wearability.

Mountain-lions (pumas, panthers or cougars) keep entire ecosystems functioning the way they were intended. As apex predators they keep ungulates alert and moving, preventing overgrazing and erosion of water sources. Kills provide food for other animals.

Human caused climate change, wildfires and droughts effect mountain lions by reducing the availability of prey. Wildfires destroy huge stretches of habitat, so mountain lions must wander great distances to find food, sometimes bringing them into close proximity to people. It is essential to protect remaining mountain lion habitat, to build corridors that allow them to move unimpeded by human barriers and teach others to have a peaceful coexistence with the species.

Rosella and Loubert Soseeah's amazing feline has turquoise eyes and is carved from dolomite to a size of roughly 2 3/4" long, 3/4" wide and 1" tall. The dolomite specimen is so pretty rich with burgundy and soft pink hues. An offering bundle is set with an iridescent abalone point accompanied by decadent garnet, turquoise and shell beads.

Paulette and Farlan Quam carve some of the best bears. Sculpted with great skill from appealing onyx, a turquoise-eyed bear pair makes it clear why its kind is the principal animal for the Pueblo People. Power, strength and healing are associated with magnificent bears. We feel blessed to be in the presence of these soulful Bears that together measure roughly 3" long, 1 3/4" wide and 2 5/8" tall. Veronica Poblano's artistic Zuni lineage is important. Her late father, iconic Zuni carver Leo Poblano was the nephew of Teddy Weahkee. Their enormous contribution to Zuni fetish carving and jewelry continues with Veronica and her daughter Jovanna Poblano.

Permanently perched on a gorgeously carved black lip shell leaf with crushed turquoise and a few bits of red coral, is an amazing feathered friend from stunning stichtite. Veronica inlaid lovely wings with turquoise and lapis cabochons. Endearing turquoise eyes take in the view, while a flat crest of feathers is from overlaid pen shell. About 2 1/4" long, 1" wide and 1 1/8" tall.

An unusual pendant has an elegant shape, interesting texture and lively color. An iridescent gold lip shell has been carved and set into sterling silver, forming a lovely leaf design in Charlotte Poblano-Peina's handmade pendant. As a keystone species, prairie dogs are important for many ecosystems. Their homes are repurposed by burrowing owls and other wildlife. They also improve soil quality because they mix topsoil and subsoil bringing beneficial nutrients to the surface. Prairie dogs should be revered and not treated as target practice. Their animal medicine teaches us how to treat others well. In nature, they identify each other with a kiss. They share resources, helping neighbors and other families to build burrows. They also warn each other of danger. Carved from picture jasper, Alex Tsethlikai's adorable turquoise-eyed prairie dog is upright at about 2 1/4" tall, 5/8" wide and 1" deep. An elegant offering bundle has a turquoise point with coral and turquoise beads.

An ancient story belonging to Indigenous Peoples of California says that the Creator placed the Earth on the backs of turtles who couldn't agree to stay in one place. As they went in different directions, earthquakes occurred. Maegan Shetima's darling tortoise or Turtle has been carved with a lot of personality from Picasso marble. A rounded carapace is etched with a stunning pattern accented with turquoise inlays. Eyes are from jet. About 2" long, 1 3/8" wide and 1 1/4" tall.

Winter has arrived and water freezes over, so wonderful Beavers retreat to their well-insulated underwater lodges. Fresh branches are stored right next to their homes, so nutritious food is easily accessed. Beavers are natural hydrologists who impact river water by slowing it, spreading it and storing it. Importantly, they do not stop water altogether. They help mitigate drought conditions through their dams that can store water on the surface and absorb it into the ground, which can increase stream flow during droughts. Christopher Sandoval's lovely leopard jasper beaver is about 4" long, 1" wide and 1 3/8" tall. Eyes are from turquoise inlays. Choice melon shell, spiny oyster shell and turquoise beads form the offering bundle.
