Amber is basically fossilized tree resin. In prehistoric times, certain trees exuded a sticky, clean resin to protect their bark from bacteria and fungi. As it oozed out of the tree, the resin trapped anything in its path and simultaneously prevented decay thanks to the resin's antiseptic nature. Maxx Laate's outstanding bushytail (
Fox,
Wolf, or
Coyote) has been carved from a rich amber specimen with interesting inclusions. Maxx lightly etched the fossil resin for fur detail. Observant eyes are from turquoise inlays. About 2" long, 1/2" wide and 1" tall.
