Members of the weasel family, peaceful skunks are part of Zuni mythology and other Indigenous cultures view them as representing family loyalty through loving defense. Beneficial animals, they eat grubs and small rodents, a natural form of pest control for landowners. Skunks often have a negative connotation because of a strong spray however the spray is used as self-defense, not to harm others. Calvert Bowannie's little stinker is from marble and mother-of-pearl.
