This is such a cute baby
Turtle carved from serpentine by Justin Red Elk. It looks ahead through jet inlaid eyes watching mother's every move. Simple etching lines decorate its carapace. About 2 1/2" long, 1 1/2" wide and 1" tall. Justin is from the greater Leonard Halate (d) family of Zuni artists. His mother is carver Pansy Natachu. Justin's uncle and aunts are carvers Herbert Halate, Reva Halate and Marvelita Phillips, among many other wonderful artists from this lineage.
