Lorandina Sheche's old-style Mountain Lion (cougar, puma or panther) is carved from septarian nodule. It is basically mud or clay balls that formed around 50-70 million years ago and then fossilized. Over time, crystalline calcite formed in the cracks within the clay mud as the minerals leached out with moisture. Dark lines of aragonite can be seen along the edges of these crystalline inclusions. Dimensions of this coral-eyed cat are about 2 5/8" long, 3/4" wide and 1" tall. An offering bundle has a lovely serpentine point flanked by branch red coral and turquoise.
