Throughout Mesoamerica the
Hummingbird has been associated with the arrival of the rainy season, transformation and brave warrior spirit. Ancient Mayan stories say that the sun becomes a hummingbird to court the moon. Danette Laate's zippy bird is carved from picture japser with etched wings and perch. Turquoise eyes and a little beak are inlaid, while a Zuni Sunface element from jet, coral and turquiose is set. This traditional symbol represents the elements in balance. About 1 3/4" tall, 1/2" wide and 3/4" deep.
