Throughout time, alabaster has been a beloved mineral for many civilizations. The ancient Egyptians, Greek sculptors and Renaissance artists utilized it again and again. Alabaster is a form of gypsum, known for a fine grain and alluring translucence. These wonderful qualities allow for detailed carvings and give off a special play of light in finished works. Master carver Terry Wilson's male Mountain-lion (cougar, puma or panther) quietly hunts through turquoise inlaid eyes. Worked from a colorful orange alabaster, face, paw and tail details are exquisitely rendered. About 4 1/2" long, 1 1/4" wide and 1" tall.
