Zuni elder Andrew Quam has been carving since he was 11 years old. He learned the art from his parents Andrew Emerson Quam and Rosalia Reycita Quam who carved fetish necklaces. It is a cultural practice of Zuni families to share intergenerational knowledge. Badger is a resilient friend measuring approximately 2 1/4" long, 1 1/2" wide and 1/2" tall. Etched digger claws are filled with perhaps crushed coral or pipestone paste and a furry coat is nicely etched.
