Derrick Kaamasee's
Bear Dancer is carved from fish rock serpentine, holding a gourd-shaped rattle and wearing traditional attire. Jet inlaid eyes, plus turquoise and red coral accents trim this approximate 4" tall, 2 3/8" wide and 4 1/2" deep nicely sized fetish. Derrick comes from the extended Laate family of Zuni carvers. He started carving in the late 1980's inspiring other family members to carve. His brother is artist Elton Kaamasee and his uncle is Maxx Laate, who taught Derrick the art form.
