The Tunjice Hills of Slovenia host beds of ancient siltstone known as the Coprolitic Horizon from the Miocene epoch that were an oasis for seahorses. In 2009 the beds became famous for the oldest fossil record of these extraordinary fish. Alexander Chavez's darling sandstone seahorse has turquoise eyes and measures about 2 1/8" tall, 3/4" wide and 1 3/8" deep. Seahorses need our help. We can work with organizations that protect their marine habitats. We can support sustainable fishing practices and avoid the wildlife trade as well.
