Herbert Halate's father was noted artist Leonard Halate who started producing stone animal carvings in the 1940's. Herbert and his siblings, Reva Halate, Marvelita Phillips and Pansy Natachu, continue the tradition. A smooth and small black panther (
Mountain-lion, puma or cougar) is fluidly carved from jet by Herbert. Boldly incised whiskers are important because these great cats use them to navigate and aide in the hunt. Focused eyes are from turquoise inlays. About 2 5/8" long, 1/2" wide and 7/8" tall.
