Donovan Laiwakete's Medicine-bear brings lessons of strength and protection. Many Pueblo cultures consider bears as kin, powerful members of the family to be respected. Indigenous teachings about kinship with the natural world reveals that we miss out on a lot of positive interactions when we adopt antagonistic attitudes toward wildlife. Carved from marble, eyes are from turquoise inlays, while a heartline or breath path is inlaid with alternating pieces of turquoise, pipestone, Mojave green turquoise and mother-of-pearl. About 3" tall, 3/4" wide and 2 1/2" long.
