Ancient rock art is called petroglyphs made by prehistoric Indigenous Peoples. The word comes from the Greek petra meaning stone, and glyphe meaning carving. Petroglyphs are abundant in the American Southwest occupying rock faces with many sacred symbols. Petroglyph National Monument in Albuquerque, New Mexico is one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America. Rams are ofted depicted in petroglyphs.
