Carlos Laate's inspiration comes from his grandparents who were silversmiths and potters. He acknowledges that Mother Earth gives all the materials to work with, no traders and money exchanged to get what is already provided. Hand-coiled and painted with natural clay and pigments is a stunning Zuni Rainbird olla pottery. It is beautiful to see Carlos' coiling work on the inside of the clay jar. Perhaps sheets of life-giving rainfall and drops adorn the pottery. The Rainbird known as The Bringer Of Life representing prayers for rain and snow here in the arid southwest, a welcome blessing.
