By Delvin Leekya

Animal: Frog, Material: Zuni Travertine
This offering is sold.

Frogs can absorb water through their skin so they don't need to drink it. In the Zuni way, a frog (Dakkya) is a sign of water. Water is life. Frogs often appear on prayer bowls since many of the Zuni prayers and dances ask for water in the form of rain or snow. Carved from indigenous Zuni travertine accented with turquoise inlays, Delvin Leekya's amphibian is approximately 1 3/4" long, 1 1/8" wide and roughly 1 1/8" tall. Hopeful eyes from jet in mother-of-pearl watch the clouds for rainfall. Sky-blue turquoise nuggets with jet beads compose the offering bundle that expresses appreciation for important frogs.
