The Comcáac People who are Indigenous to Mexico's Gulf of California, hold leatherback sea Turtles as sacred brothers, believing the leatherback was as a man before becoming a turtle, one who felt pain, heat and hunger. Because of their familial regard for leatherbacks who are one of the most endangered turtles in the world, tribal members are guardians working to protect female turtles and their nests along the beaches of ancestral territory. Their goal is to increase the number of hatchlings to enable a continuity of the species. Kenric Laiwakete's lovely fluorite sea turtle has a gorgeous carapace inlaid with turquoise. Measurements of this wonderful reptile are approximately 2 3/4" long, 2" wide and 5/8" tall. Sweet eyes are from turquoise inlays.
